Description:
Vanagon Front Seat Swivel Seat Adapter. Bolts to existing base. Allows use of rear facing seats (MV and Weekender models) when seat is in locked front position. Raises height of seat 3 cm. Seat will swivel any direction. For 1980 thru 1991 model years including Vanagon Westfalia.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS:
< you only have to drill two holes, the other 4 are already in place. The seat sits about 1" higher than w/o the base, but is not a problem. It is mounted very well and does not rock or otherwise move. With my setup I have to remove the rear facing jump seat and tray to swivel the seat. I also repositioned the seatbelt mounting bracket, the bracket must be rotated about 90 degrees so the seat will clear when rotating. The only major problem I see with the design is that it would be impossible to get to the battery if the door was still there. With the door gone it is possible to get to the terminals, but not remove the battery. The remaining carpet flap is adequate to cover the battery, but the retaining system should be intact or the battery could short to the seat base. Overall I think it's pretty nice, It would be nice for camping, removing the jumpseat and the extra space from the passenger seat will oven up the interior quite a bit. dave>>

Vanagon Swivel Adapter
From EuroCampers.com. Thank you Rob for your Review. We do not recommend any modifications be made to this product. Modifications may make the product unsound and unsafe to use. Rob's review: "In many ways, this adapter is amazing, but.. there are shortcomings. 1) This item was shipped in a cardboard box, it arrived with the swivel bolt penetrating the box causing the fastening parts to exit the box. Luckily, the driver found them all. 2) While the rear 2 bolts have an insert-able nut carrier which slides into the car glides carrier, the front bolts have only square nuts, which makes the most inside bolt a difficult one to secure properly and because, this location has a square cut, possibly problematic. I am currently fabricating 2 similar carriers for the front mounts. 3) The swivel partially blocks access to the passenger seat battery area, making battery removal problematic without removing the seat. While leaving the slides untouched, I am currently cutting (with difficulty) a 1 inch relief into the 2 plates, this will make access safer with no possibility of an accidental short accessing the battery terminal. I hope your next run will address these shortcomings, and thank you for the fine job you have already done."

Love the functionality
I really like what this swivel does, and mostly satisfied with installation. The only problem I've had so far is that the tracks for the seat on the swivel base are just slightly larger than stock so there is slight play and rattle between the seat and new tracks, especially when driving. Everything else about the base is solid and sleek.

Vangon Swivel Adapter
Installation to the Vanagon front passenger seat took roughly 30 minutes. I am fairly handy, and only needed a drill, a few bits, and my shop vac to get all the dog hair out from under the old seat... The additional holes to be drilled were necessary and actually lend to the strength of the overall set-up. I give this 4 stars. The good: It is a solid set up and REALLY adds to the overall usability of the interior since I camp with my wife and two daughters. The apparatus is solid and easy to rotate. It locks solidly in the forward position. The only problem (not good, but OK) is that the seat will not slide back as far as it used to. Your knees, as a result, are a lot closer to the dashboard. And yes - it is true: the swivel mount base protrudes over the battery box making it impossible to remove without pulling the swivel adapter. The seat is about 1.3" higher, but I don't find that to be a problem. Overall, it is a great upgrade though and worth the minor inconveniences listed above. No regrets at all. If the seat could slide back further, I would put one on my driver's side too, but find that I need the knee room and don't really need that side to swivel on my Weekender.

Vanagon affliction
Nice fit, sturdy quality construction. Adapted to my Recaros with a little work, could use a drilled/threaded bar instead of nuts to mount to track. Good purchase.

well made product
Hello, I am very happy w the swivel seat adapter for Vanagon front seat. It is very good quality, heavy gauge steel. works very good and smooth. I did have to cut out the base plate for battery access. removed about 2" from back bottom plate in center section so i can remove the battery if needed. I would look into changing the design slightly to allow for this. I knew this when i purchased it and was ready to make the modification. Like i said, the seat plate is heavy good quality steel plate so removing the couple inches will not affect the function or safety. This is a very well made product.

Good but hard to access battery
the plate mounts very easily. I did have to ream out a few holes for the larger bolts to fit but that was as easy as grabbing a drill. I ended up using a cutoff wheel to make an access port in the area that covers the battery terminals as I wanted to be able to unplug the battery without having to remove the base. other than that the base is very well made and solid. it only locks in the forward position so it easily rotates any angle. The seat is noticeably higher but I am 6'3" and i still have plenty of headroom.

This will fit my 1978 VW Bus?
Asked by:
Barry Boyles
- 11/14/2023
A:
The manufacture only lists VWT2. We sell these as fitting Vanagon, but it's possible they would fit earlier VW models that do not have the bracket behind the seat.
