Great product... My Leisure Travel Sprinter van (RV) came with a spare tire carrier that was attached to the tow bar and needed to be lowered to open the left hand rear door. A real pain... Problem solved with this product. Instructions are worthless but very easy to figure out how to mount. I had thought of mounting the spare tire under the van as it originally mounted but the cost of parts and time needed made that idea very costly.

Good solution, works fine

I have an '04 Leisure Travel Van Sprinter conversion on which the original spare tire swing arm failed due to rust. Thankfully it didn't happen on the expressway. The gizmo arrived in an ill fitting box; part of it protruded from the cardboard, but it was undamaged. There are no installation instructions, but I referred to this page on a Sprinter forum which was exceedingly helpful: sprinter-source dot com/forum/showthread.php?t=43736 Installation was straight forward, but the non-hinge bolt was challenging to secure due to the tight fit for chubby hands inside the Sprinter door. I have since put on about 1700 miles of rural Appalachian roads and Great Slab Interstates, and the carrier is holding fast. All in all a good product.

Great solution apart from the hardware and 'instructions'

Fitted it on our '05 LTV Free Spirit Sprinter to replace the real pain of the hitch mounted swing-down wheel. Need to open both doors often. Worked like a charm - hardware missing from package but they sent more - but I replaced it with Stainless. Useless instructions, but pretty much common sense. Nice unit - really pleased with the result.

Poor hardware, bad fit

First, my hardware was not in the box nor taped to the unit, so I was on hold a week while I had the factory send another hardware package. Second, there are no instructions, at all, but you can figure it out... pretty much... unless you try to use the hardware in the hardware package. Third, the hardware does not match the unit, the bolts are WAY too long if you use the large bolts. If you use the small bolts they are way undersized for the holes. You'll make a trip to Lowes to get the right hardware. There are modifications you can make (replace that stupid thick headed screw (one of three screws on each hinge) with a flatter headed screw so you can use a larger bolt for attaching the carrier) to make a cleaner installation. Finally, the angle of the brackets that go on the hinges is all wrong. you can't press the carrier up to the door to drill the third mounting hole. You have to put shims under the hinge brackets to get it to set flat against the door. All in all the quality was very poor.

The 2001 - 2006 Sprinter Rear Door Tire Carrier installs easily, looks good and keeps the spare tire out of the way. Just be aware that you cannot swing the door to the side of the van position. This is a great value.

The Rear Door Tire Carrier is great. I found the mounting points to the Sprinter- to be better than I had thought. More secure and very stable. The instructions to assemble the carrier suck, however. And this takes more time to figure out than it should. I really hate companies that don't take the time to include simple instructions so I don't waste my time. The whole assembly should take 20 minutes if you have the tools you need. Because I couldn't figure out 2 or 3 simple things, it took me several hours of my time.

Overall, I am delighted with the carrier. The instructions are useless. I had to figure out the best combination of bolts, washers and lock washers. The bolts provided for the spare wheel were too short and I got longer ones from Home Depot.

Down by the river

Like others have said, it is a nice unit and mounts easily. It didn't come with instructions, but the online directions aren't worth printing a piece of paper, so I understand. I had to buy new bolts that were long enough to mount the tire. Now that it is mounted, it is solid and looks nice at a nice price. Good product.

Rear Tire Carrier

I installed a generator under the rear of our Sprinter motor home and therefore the spare tire needed to be relocated to the rear driver door. There were no instructions, however it was a simple 10 minutes mounting job. I did change out the nuts for the hinge mount portion for lock nuts. Great product and it was delivered quickly. We are very happy with it.

Lot of space

The rear door tire carrier will let me having a lot of space below the RV. The delivery by UPS was great. They took care of the custom clearance. For sure I paid for but it simplified my life
