Grinding required for 1995 Eurovan Winnebago Camper
It's a good sturdy part. However it was not a perfect fit for my 1995 Winnebago Edition. This van is technically a VW T4 manufactured in 1993. The walls of the casting are thicker than the original part. This makes it contact the upper and lower bar of the seat frame so that it cannot be recessed enough for the original self tapping screws to reach. I used a small angle grinder to reduce the thickness of the upper and lower walls until it recessed enough for the screws to reach. I found that a 60 grit flapper wheel was pretty effective and gave me more control and a smoother finish than a grinding wheel. Someone asked about how to deal with the unthreaded screw holes. Just use (the original) self-tapping screws. Put a drop of oil on the screw. Then use a drill driver on slow speed to drive the screw in. It will cut the threads as it goes in. Then back them out and mount the part to the seat frame. The part I replaced is supposed to be gray green, not black. I painted mine with near perfect color match using Home Depot Behr Premium spray paint color "Iron Mountain" Satin. UPC 78885 20467.

Rear seat paddle latch
This paddle latch works better than the original and easy to install. We found a step by step tutorial on samba.com for anyone trying it for the first time, its easy to follow. Our mail system lost the first order and when I alerted Eurocampers about the situation, they were so helpful and I got the replacement within 5 days! So thankful for them and their help! Thanks again! Definitely worth the price and a great company to support!

Screws to mount?
Very well-made product. A big upgrade of the factory installed latch. Only issue is that it came without screws to mount to the seat frame. There are no threads in the latch to receive the screws- assume self-tapping screws is the only way to go here??? Would appreciate any feedback from anyone that has previously purchased and installed this.

Sturdy replacement
Well made replacement for the rear seat paddle latch. Directions would be helpful, but managed to figure it out. Required a lot more grinding then I was expecting to get it to sit flush in the area.

Poor QC, did not fit 1995 Euro WIn
This latch was a horrible fit for my 1995 VW Camper. It was listed as an exact fit but was not. Below are a list of issues with the product: 1) The latch did not come with screws and the screws from the original latch did not fit. Actually it appeared as if the new latch did not even have screw threads. 2) The screw holes in the new latch did not line up with the metal pre-drilled holes in my camper. I did end up making it work by drilling out the metal face plate (on my seat) to fit the latch holes and finding self tapping screws to use in place of the original screws. For over $70 after shipping and tax this was not what I expected. There REALLY needs to be some QC on these... At least for a 1995 Eurovan Winny it did not fit well at all. **Note from EuroCampers** Thank you for your order and we're sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the rear bench paddle latch. Unfortunately, the original latch is no longer available and the latch we provide is made by the original manufacturer of the latch. It is as close to the original as we could find. This is a part that has to have a replacement in order for the bed to be functional and we know of no other options on the market. We do list the required modifications on the product page in red bold and we do not say or claim that it is an exact fit. We apologize for any misunderstanding.

Works perfectly. Took a good bit of grinding to fit between the steel tubing of the chair frame. I used an electric 4 1/2”grinder with a grinding wheel then cleaned up with a flap disk. Take more material from the top than bottom. Casting gets thin and a breakthrough would be visible on the bottom.

Gus's Bus
The bench paddle replacement works like a charm. Even better it forced me take the seat off and, while I was at it, take apart the rest of the rear bench, clean it and re-attach the nylon glides. That cleaning should be an annual maintinance item. Then I wouldn't have to replace the bench paddle.

Easy Fix
My old bench paddle latch broke and it was a struggle to slide the seat. This new latch was super easy to install (just remove four bolts that hold down the upper part of the seat frame, lift up the storage bin, and remove the four screws from the pack of the latch paddle).

Perfect Replacement for The Latch on our van
The factory latch failing put us in a bit of a time crunch preparing for a trip. This latch showed up in less than a week and was a direct drop in. Getting the seat disassembled to install it was easy and gave us the opportunity to remove about a pound of dog hair!

Perfect fit
This part was an exact replacement for the original latch (other than the color). It took about a half hour to take the seat apart, replace the latch and put everything back together.

Don't just get one
This part is a usual one that folks are looking for at some point because the VW seat release design is really poor and the part is fragile. Replacement is pretty straight-forward - a second set of hands to disassemble/lift the seat slightly is useful. The construction of this part from EuroCampers is very solid and the price is way better when compared to some other fs from whom you can get this part. I'll be buying a second one of these to keep in the van when we roadtrip because you'll be in a difficult spot if you can't get your main bed pulled out properly!

Other than the paint color, exact replica of original part. Easy install. Over +25 years this latch will fail so replace now or carry a spare!

Latch review
Parts were as advertised, with no installation instructions. As other reviews have noted, the disassembly is relatively straightforward but took me awhile. A second person assisting for a few steps is helpful.

The front of the seat base will pull off, you can also pull the release and pop the seat bottom up. You may also be able to crawl under the seat from the rear.

Q:
I'd inquired about this part and someone gave me a quick less than useful "what you see is what you get" and I failed to ask the right questions. I had asked if it replaced the housing but after another look it does indeed seem to include the housing for the latch. So I am wondering whether there are any installation instructions. I expect that there is a way to remove existing housing for the latch and that the wires that connect to the old latch housing simply connect to this new one. What is your return policy if inadequate info about this part leads to a regrettable purchase that will not work for me?

A:
This part bolts to the seat frame with 4 screws from the back. The cables hook through the holes on the cam latch. The original part had a plastic cam that often broke. This new version uses a metal cam. Installation will require you to grind or file a bit of metal off the back of the latch to get it to fit in the frame. You could consider using a qualified mechanic for this custom work.

Q:
Do you supply directions on how to install this. Our Eurovan is a 1995, and previous owners have made their own latch that does not work well. And it is to big to put the cover on the front to hide the rear seat mechanism.
Asked by:
Deb
- 6/4/2022
A:
No instructions are provided, but to install in an unmodified van, there are 4 bolts holding the latch on from the back and 2 cables that easily attach to the cam on the back of the latch. You will need to grind away a bit of metal on the back side of this latch to get it to fit. This latest latch version is very similar to the original but has a metal cam and should last longer. The original latch is no longer available. Also check the operation of your cables and the plastic glides on the slide mechanism.
