2-Year Warranty — Handled by Us
The Clesana X1 is a portable, waterless, odor-free sealing toilet engineered for life on the road. No black tank. No chemicals. No water hookup. No dumping stations. Just a compact, Swiss-engineered unit that welds each use into a medical-grade barrier film and drops the sealed package into a removable drawer. Use it in a Sprinter van, a travel trailer, a fishing boat, or an off-grid cabin — plug it in to 12V, 24V, 110–240V mains, or an Einhell 18V battery, and you're ready to go.
At EuroCampers, we've been outfitting US van-life and camper builds with European accessories since 1997 . The Clesana X1 is one of the few products we carry that genuinely changes how people travel — no more pulling into dump stations on a holiday weekend, no more chemical fumes in a sealed van, no more winterizing a cassette.
Buying from an authorized US Clesana dealer matters. If anything goes wrong in the 2-year warranty window, we handle it — no shipping a toilet back across the Atlantic. We stock the X1 here in the US, so when you order, it ships free from Missouri instead of sitting on a preorder list for six weeks.

How the Clesana X1 Works
The Clesana X1 replaces the holding tank with a roll of medical-grade high-barrier film . After each use, you press the flush button, and the X1 automatically heat-welds the film shut around the waste in about 90 seconds . The sealed pouch drops into a removable drawer beneath the seat, and the next section of film is staged for the next use. Clesana recommends emptying the drawer after each use — the sealed pouch can be disposed of in ordinary household waste — check your local waste-management regulations first, as a small number of US municipalities have rules about human waste in landfills — and the drawer stays clean and odor-free.
1. Use

2. Seal

3. Done

Odor-free
No water. No chemicals. No dump stations. No cleaning the interior.
Why does this matter? Because a Fraunhofer IVV study (Report ME-1051-25, January 2025) measured Clesana's high-barrier film against competing liners and found it delivers a 2,200× better oxygen barrier and up to 34× better water-vapor barrier than the closest name-brand alternative. In plain English: sealed is sealed. No leaks, no smell, no gradual off-gassing in your van. You can read Clesana's write-up of the Fraunhofer test here .
Why the X1 Is Different
Telescoping Design
Collapses to 302 mm (11.9") for storage; extends to a comfortable 407 mm (16") seat height in one motion. Fits in cupboards and under dinettes no other RV toilet can match.
Medical-Grade Barrier Film
Originally developed for clinical use. Lab-tested by the Fraunhofer Institute (Germany) for odor-barrier performance far beyond any camping-market alternative.
Four Power Inputs
12V DC, 24V DC, 110–240V AC, or an Einhell 18V Power X-Change battery. One unit works in vans, RVs, cabins, boats, and tiny homes.
Truly Autonomous
No black tank. No dump station. No chemicals. No water. No winterizing. Remove the drawer, drop the sealed pouches in the trash, done.
Residential Feel
Supports up to 150 kg (330 lb). Adult seat height in use. None of the crouched, low-seat compromise of most portable units.
Quiet and Discreet
The sealing cycle runs for about 90 seconds. The toilet draws a maximum of 140 W and uses just 1.7 Wh per cycle — a low-wattage motor designed for indoor use in RVs, vans, and liveaboards.
Four Ways to Power Your X1
The X1 runs on whatever power you have. Plug it into the cigarette socket in a truck, the 12V system in a van conversion, the 110V outlet in a cabin, or an Einhell 18V battery when you're fully off-grid. A 4 Ah Einhell Power X-Change battery will seal 40 to 50 cycles per charge — enough for a week of dispersed camping for most couples.
12V DC Included car adapter, 2 m cable. Perfect for vans and RVs.
24V DC Heavy-duty DC systems, Class C and Class A RVs.
110–240V AC Universal-voltage adapter included. Use at home, cabins, shore power.
Einhell 18V Battery For true off-grid use. Battery sold separately.
Heads up — the Einhell 18V battery is not included in the box. If you plan to use the X1 fully off-grid, plan to pick up an Einhell Power X-Change battery separately. The AC and DC adapters are included, so the X1 is ready to use the day it arrives.
About the AC adapter plug. Clesana ships the X1 with a European-style plug on the AC cord. The adapter itself is universal voltage (100–240V) , so it will work on US wall power — you just need a simple plug-shape adapter (the small travel kind, not a voltage converter) to go from the European plug to a US outlet. These run about $5–10 on Amazon or any travel store.

Who the Clesana X1 Is For
If you've looked at cassette toilets, composting toilets, and dry-flush bag toilets and found reasons to reject each one, the X1 was designed for you. It's the right choice for:
Sprinter, ProMaster, and Transit van conversions — where space, weight, and a clean interior environment all matter.
Class B and small Class C motorhomes — retrofit into a cabinet, skip the black-tank plumbing.
Travel trailers and teardrops — portable or fixed install without dump-point dependencies.
Fishing and small coastal boats — no Y-valves, no marine pump-outs, no overboard discharge compliance issues.
Off-grid cabins, tiny homes, and hunting camps — no septic field, no outhouse, no winterizing.
Expedition and overland rigs — true self-contained, power-from-anywhere waste management.
Installation Options
Clesana documents three mounting methods in the X1 manual. Pick the one that matches your vehicle or build:
Metal screws from below (rack-mount). The four metal screws already on the bottom of the X1 are removed and re-used to fasten the toilet to a rack system from underneath. Best for RV and motorhome builds with an accessible subfloor rail or rack.
Wood screws from above (wood panels or solid surfaces). You remove the drawer and lower basin, drill four mounting holes at the marked centering points on the outer side of the basin, reinstall the basin, position the X1, mark the holes in your floor, pre-drill, and drive lens-head wood screws up through the bottom of the lower basin into the surface. The standard approach for Sprinter, ProMaster, and Transit conversions into a plywood subfloor.
Clesana floor-mounting system. A quick-release lock-and-release base that screws into the floor. Drop the X1 onto the base, lock it for travel, unlock to lift the toilet off for storage or cleaning. Sold separately — not included in the scope of delivery.
Whichever method you choose, the X1 must be secured for travel — it's not designed to be left freestanding in a moving vehicle. If you want help matching a mounting method to your specific build, call us at 636-337-7700 .
Running Costs & Consumables
Cassette toilets look cheaper until you add up the chemicals, deodorizers, and dump fees. The X1's ongoing cost is simple: Clesana barrier film (sold in 2-roll packs, approximately 100–120 uses per pack ), plus an optional super-absorber sachet if you want extra liquid control.
Compare that to roughly $15–30 per month in cassette chemicals and $5–10 per dump-station visit, and the X1's per-use cost is typically lower after the first season — especially if you're dispersed camping where dump stations are inconvenient or expensive.
Clesana X1 vs Clesana X1 ProCharge
Clesana makes two portable versions. The X1 (this page) is the base model. The X1 ProCharge adds integrated Einhell 18V battery charging so you never need a separate charger. Here's how they stack up:
Feature
Clesana X1
Clesana X1 ProCharge
Waterless sealing toilet Yes Yes
12V / 24V / 110–240V AC inputs Yes Yes
Runs on Einhell 18V battery Yes Yes
Integrated Einhell battery charging No Yes
Separate battery charger required Yes No
Best for Shore-power or mixed use; budget-conscious buyers Full off-grid, extended remote trips
Price $1,649.95 $1,799.95
Short version: if you regularly stay on shore power or already own an Einhell charger, the X1 saves you $150. If you're doing long off-grid trips and want to keep a spare Einhell battery charged without packing a separate charger, the X1 ProCharge is worth the upgrade.
What Our Customers Say
The ProCharge is a newer model, so our first US customer reviews are still coming in. In the meantime, here's a recent review from a customer who bought the Clesana C1 — the toilet function is identical across the Clesana line, so her experience carries over:
"We purchased this toilet based on the described ease of use and disposal. My husband installed it in our 2026 ProMaster 2500 Wayfarer van. We just used it for one week in our van and we LOVE IT! It is pricey BUT well worth it in my opinion."

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Clesana X1 actually work?
You use the toilet the way you'd use any other. When you're done, you press the flush button and the X1 heat-welds a medical-grade barrier film around the waste over about 90 seconds. The sealed pouch drops into a removable drawer under the seat. When the drawer gets full, you pull it out, empty the pouches into regular household waste (check local waste-management regulations — a small number of US municipalities have rules about human waste in landfills), and reinsert the drawer. No water, no chemicals, no dumping.
Is the Clesana X1 in stock in the USA right now?
Stock status is shown above the Add-to-Cart button on this page. When units are on the shelf, we ship free from our Missouri warehouse, usually the same business day for orders placed before our shipping cutoff. When a shipment is in transit, we publish a firm restock date on the page and you can join the waitlist to be notified the moment it's available. Either way, you're not waiting six weeks on a preorder from overseas.
Do I need water or chemicals?
No. The X1 is fully waterless and uses no chemicals. The only consumable is the Clesana barrier film (and optional super-absorber packets if you want extra liquid control). That's a major reason it works for off-grid travelers, boaters, and anyone who doesn't want chemical fumes inside a van.
Is the Einhell battery included?
No. The Einhell 18V Power X-Change battery is sold separately. The X1 does include the 12V DC and 110–240V AC adapters, so you can use it the day it arrives. If you want to go fully off-grid, pick up a 4 Ah Einhell battery — one charge seals roughly 40–50 cycles.
How loud is it?
Quiet enough for shared-van use at night. The sealing motor runs for about 90 seconds per cycle, produces a soft mechanical hum, and then turns off. It's significantly quieter than flushing a cassette toilet.
How long does a roll of barrier film last?
Clesana sells the barrier film in 2-roll packs. Each pack covers approximately 100–120 uses depending on bag size selected (S, M, L) — several weeks for most couples in a van. We stock it in the US so you can reorder without a trans-Atlantic wait.
Will the X1 fit in my Sprinter / ProMaster / Transit van build?
Stowed, the X1 is 302 × 344 × 384 mm (11.9 × 13.5 × 15.1 inches) — smaller than most cassette toilets and most portable Porta-Pottis. Extended for use, the seat height is 407 mm (16 in). It fits under dinettes, inside cabinets, and in dedicated cubbies. If you want help confirming it fits your build, call us at 636-337-7700.
What's the difference between the X1 and the X1 ProCharge?
The ProCharge adds integrated charging for Einhell 18V Power X-Change batteries. Plug the battery into the toilet while it's running on shore power or DC, and the battery tops up automatically — no separate charger required. Everything else is identical. The ProCharge is $150 more. See the full ProCharge page for details.
Is there a warranty, and who handles it?
Yes — a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Unlike some other North American retailers, we handle warranty service for our US customers in-house. If your X1 has a covered issue, you call us, not Clesana in Europe. That's one of the real advantages of buying from an authorized US dealer.
Can I return the Clesana X1?
Yes, with conditions. Because this is a hygiene product, returns are limited to unopened units with the tamper-evident seal still intact , within 30 days of delivery. A 15% restocking fee and return shipping apply. Used or opened units are non-returnable. Defects are covered by the 2-year manufacturer warranty — handled by us in the US.
Can I install it in a boat or marine environment?
Yes. The X1 is splash-resistant (IPX4) and many owners use it on small fishing and coastal vessels where marine pump-out plumbing is overkill. Keep the AC adapter dry and operated indoors, and you're fine.
What about disposal — can I really put sealed pouches in the trash?
The sealed pouches are leak-proof and odor-sealed, and Clesana's guidance is to dispose of them in ordinary household waste. A handful of US municipalities have specific rules about human waste in landfills — check your local waste-management regulations if you're unsure.
